What we do

HOP offers experiences of working practically and cooperatively on seasonal activities outdoors.

In HOP sessions children grow vegetables, build dens, cook over fires, plant trees, get creative with wood and much more!

HOP is a break from classroom-based learning, a chance to get outside whatever the weather and experience a different way of being and doing.

Together we:

  • improve soil health and develop sustainable and abundant growing areas with vegetables, flowers and fruit through activities such as composting, planting and seed-saving
  • protect nature, increase biodiversity and help local wildlife to thrive by creating wildlife-friendly habitats and by planting native trees and wildflower areas
  • combine nature with creativity through seasonal crafts using natural materials growing on the school grounds, nearby parks and woods
  • practise mindfulness in nature; helping children reflect, reset and carry a sense of calm into their lives
  • build relationships with the community, inspiring schools and families to connect with nature

We guide children through rich, hands-on nature-based experiences, sparking curiosity, deepening environmental awareness and helping children develop a sense of care and responsibility for the natural world

Nature is a powerful teacher – it helps children develop resilience, co-operation and confidence. This is learning that supports emotional well-being and personal growth as well as a deeper understanding of themselves, each other, and their environment.

Sessions are intentionally designed to embrace productive struggle, responsible risk-taking and the value of making mistakes as part of learning and growth.

We provide space for autonomy, independence and freedom to choose, and opportunities for problem-solving, creativity and skill development.

In small groups, the children have the chance to share thoughts, worries and feelings in a supportive, nurturing space where they feel safe, valued and understood.
